Special Quotes From Guti and Quaresma

Beşiktaş star players Guti Hernandez and Ricardo Quaresma were on League TV to answer a number of questions directed to them by the “Football Agenda” show’s host Sinan Engin.

When asked about his transfer story to Beşiktaş, the Spanish player Guti replied, “I was thinking of leaving Real Madrid because I thought there was nothing left for me to do there. Then Beşiktaş made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. The willingness of the management to have me on board also played an important part.”
Portuguese Quaresma answered the same question by saying, “I previously played against Beşiktaş here and I liked what I saw, especially the fans. When I was made an offer, I didn’t hesitate much. I know I made the right decision because I gained back my desire to play football at Beşiktaş.”
Guti was full of emotions when he was reminded of his signing ceremony at the Fiyapı İnönü Stadium, (“I have to admit the whole thing moved me deeply. I wasn’t expecting such a glamorous event because I was with the Real Madrid since my childhood, and Beşiktaş happened to be my second team. I definitely was not used to that kind of a warm reception. I won’t forget that signing ceremony for the rest of my life.”
Quaresma  also recalled that day clearly, “At first, the enthusiastic welcome at the airport was more than satisfying. I naturally thought that was it. But the signing ceremony at the stadium beat it. To step in front of thousands of fans, who just came out to see you, is every player’s dream. I want to pay them back by taking this team to a higher level.”
Guti then explained his team’s short-term goals: “ In the second half of the season, we want to win all our remaining games and earn a Champions League berth. Of course, due to points difference, we have to wait for the others to lose, but in three-point system everything is possible. In addition to this, we hope to go as far as we can in the Europa League and Turkish Cup. With the new additions to our team, we are much stronger that the first half.
Quaresma agreed with him: “We are surely more powerful than before, but if we want to catch up with the rest, we all have to put in an extra effort and exceed our limit. By focusing hard and playing well, we can make the things easier for us. We must first believe in ourselves and make a positive start into the second half.”
Guti and Quaresma both complained about the roughness in Turkish football. “Turkish League is super aggressive, and it sometimes gets out of control. Nevertheless, there are a lot of quality players to go around. No wonder, the number of Turkish players playing for prominent European teams is increasing every other day. In couple of generations, we’ll see more of them,” said Guti.
Quaresma added, “Football is actually a game like any other sport. As long as you follow the rules, you can be as much aggressive as you can on the pitch. Let’s not forget, we all make our living out of it. There is no need carry it further than that.”
Both players admitted they were extremely happy at Beşiktaş. Quresma was first to speak, “ I never thought I would be this happy in Istanbul. Even though I was injured for most of the time and missed some key matches , I had a great six months here. I expect to be more productive in the remainder of the season. Just keep on watching me.”
Guti also expressed his own feelings on the subject, “Real Madrid is considered to be one of the top three teams in the world. She has fans all over the planet. In many ways, Beşiktaş resembles Real Madrid so I enjoy playing here.”
“Let me make a confession here. In season’s first half, we were nowhere near our best. Not only we dropped some easy games at home, but we had serious concentration problems on the pitch, which kept us from playing as a unit. Furthermore, the injuries cost us dearly. If we can stay health in the remaining matches, we will surely recover some of that lost ground.”
When asked about their favorite Turkish player, they both gave Arda Turan’s name.
“Arda Turan is undeniably the most talented Turkish player in this league. Unfortunately, due to his injuries, he was unable to show us himself this season, but he is still fun to watch when he is on the pitch. We also have some good Turkish players on our squad and Nihat Kahveci is one of them. I must also mention Necip Uysal. Despite his young age, he is destined to be star in not so distant future,” the Spanish star claimed.
Quaresma shared his teammate’s views, “Arda is a quality player, who can easily play for the best in Europe. If he stayed healthy, we would be talking more of him right now. I also like Alex, the Brazilian can turn a game around in no time. There are  a lot of skillful Turkish players in this League. We will hear more from them in the future.”
When Beşiktaş Chairman Yıldırım Demirören’s name came up, Guti joked, “There is not much to say about him. We know how good he is at football, but his golfing needs a lot. If wants to be a competent golfer he has to take some lessons.” Quresma did not pass up the opportunity, “ I can not comment on this matter because I know nothing about golf.”
Then, the host Sinan Engin wanted to know the gang leader among Beşiktaş’s foreign players. Guti was quick to reply, “I think Ricardo (Quaresma) is the man your looking for. There are four Portuguese at Beşiktaş, and I am the only Spanish on the squad. But let’s not forget, Spain is the world champion.
Quaresma objected: “Yes, Spain may be the world champion, but the world’s best player is Cristiano Ronaldo, and he is from Portugal.”
Finally, both Eagles delivered their messages to the fans.
Guti: “Our fans have been real supportive so far. We want to reward their loyalty by winning the Turkish Cup, going as far as we can in the Europa League and capturing a Champions League berth. They should stick by us all the way because this team has a great potential.”
Quaresma: “I personally thank our fans for standing by us during our difficult times. They must continue to do so until the final whistle because we are in for a though journey in the second part of the season and it is not all over yet. They are our twelfth man on the pitch. As they all very well know we are still fighting on three fronts. We will do our best to win the title, if not, earning a Champions League spot is just as important. This team has the capacity to achieve a lot in the Europa League. We will also go after the Turkish Cup. But without them, we can not realize these goals. If they want to a lift a cup at the end of the season, they have to stick by us and maintain a spirit in common cause.”
