Hüseyin Beşok Joins Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş Cola Turka men’s basketball team has acquired veteran center Hüseyin Beşok in a mid-season deal. Following his first practice with the team, Beşok shared his feelings with our website:

“I am honored and excited to be a part of this great club. Since Beşiktaş and our coach Ergin Ataman always aim for the highest, it will be fun to play for them. Despite the mid-season, I am quite fit and ready to offer my services. I am sure, together with my teammates, we will take this team to a higher level in no time.
Who is Beşok?
Beşiktaş new signing is born in Izmir City on August 2nd, 1975. The 2.12m and 120kg veteran plays center, a position the Eagles currently want to address.
He started his playing career in Karşıyaka youth organization and gained immediate recognition from all critics, which sent him to Efes Pilsen where he won a number of important titles. During 1994-95 and 200-01 seasons with the Efes Pilsen, the brother of prominent basketballer Faruk Beşok not only lifted the Koraç Cup, the second most prestigious European Cup of the time, but became an indispensible player of the Turkish national team.
After a brief stint with European Champion Maccabi Tel-Aviv in 2001, where he didn’t get much playing time due to FIBA-Europe’s foreign player restriction, Beşok joined the Sunce Sibenik of Crotia in 2003. A series of unfortunate injuries followed him to Sibenik and never allowed him to reach the level of success he could have had. But, in 2004-05, his outstanding performance with the Asvel Villaurbanne, a French team coached by the Turkish coach Erman Kunter, earned him a spot in the French All Star team.
The much-travelled Beşok signed with Unics Kazan of Russia in 2005-06 before moving to French Le Mans the very same season. In 2006-07, he ended up playing for the Polish side Prokom, where he made history for being the highest paid player in Poland.
He then returned to Turkey and wore Galatasaray’s uniform between the seasons 2007-08 and 2008-09. During the following two seasons he started for Turk Telekom and Aliağa Petkim respectively. He has one Koraç Cup, two Turkish League Championship, three Turkish Cup and one Turkish Presidency Cup titles under his belt. In addition to all these honors, in 2002, he captured the national league and cup with Maccabi Tel-Aviv. He was also a starting center for Le Mans when the French team won the national title in 2006.
