Tarsus Municipality 67 - Beşiktaş Cola Turka 63

Visiting Tarsus Municipality sneaked out a 67-63 win over Beşiktaş Cola Turka women’s basketball in the last game of season’s first half at the Arena Wednesday.

Starting the game with a lineup of Nilay Kartaltepe, Iziane Marques, Yasemin Horasan, Nykesha Sales and Kelly Silva Santos, the Lady Eagles fell behind, 5-2, in the opening minutes but bounced back to take a 7-6 lead after four minutes. From that point on, Beşiktaş Cola Turka got cold and had to settle for 13-13 tie heading into second frame.
After Esra Atacan made a three-point play to open the second, the Black and White used the scoring of Salkauske to remain ahead, only to see the game being knotted at 20-20 midway through the quarter. The score stayed close until Santos and Margues hit back-to-back jumpers and gave the Lady Eagles to a 7-point advantage, 30-23, with 2:00 left on the clock. The visitors tried to close the gap but were unable to stop Yasemin Horasan and Marques from getting to the basket as the first half ended, 36-27, in favor of Beşiktaş Cola Turka.
The Black and White maintained its dominance early in the third and was comfortably up, 46-34, at the halfway mark. Then an injury to point-guard Nilay Kartaltepe halted the Lady Eagles momentum and allowed the margin to shrink to three, 46-43, entering the final minute. Despite Beşiktaş Cola Turka’s attempts to keep it back up, Tarsus Municipality evened the score at 50 with one quarter to play.
The fourth quarter saw the visitors gain upper hand at both ends to pull ahead, 61-54, going into the final five minutes. The disorganized Beşiktaş Cola Turka showed some sings of life down the stretch, but the visitors withstood all comeback efforts from the Lady Eagles as they handed the Black and White a 67-63 home court upset.
Despite the loss, Beşiktaş Cola Turka women’s basketball completed the first half of the season among the top eight teams and earned the right to compete in the Spor Toto Turkish Cup.
