Eskişehirspor 2 – 0 Beşiktaş

The Black Eagles visited Eskişehirspor on Turkish Super League Day 16 and suffered a 2-0 upset.

It was the home side who piled on the early pressure, and they could have taken the lead when Batuhan Karadeniz found himself face to-face with Beşiktaş keeper Cenk Gönen after 3 minutes, but the young striker managed the impossible and fired it over. Although Burhan Eşer wasted another clear-cut chance for Eskişehirspor five minutes later, the red and black refused to take their feet off the gas as they camped out inside the Beşiktaş half for most of the first 45 minutes. The Black and White’s only chance in the opening half came from Necip Uysal off Guti’s free-kick, which was brilliantly parried away by Eskişehir keeper Ivesa on 27 minutes. Guti received his second yellow card in the 38th minute, and the Eagles had to continue with 10 men for the remainder of the match. The teams settled for a scoreless draw at the break.
After replacing Ali Kuçik with Erhan Güven, Beşiktaş pulled Hilbert to Guti’s position in the second half and even scored a goal through Holosko at the 50th minute mark, but it was disallowed by the referee Bünyamin Gezer for offside. Having an extra man on the pitch, Eskişehirspor gradually reclaimed the superiority they showed in the first half and surged ahead with a 60th-minute goal from Veysel Sarı. Led by İbrahim Toraman and Erhan Güven, the Eagles went all out for the equaliser after the goal, leaving huge gaps at the back for the host team to exploit and exploit them they did. Sezer Öztürk slotted one home on 78 minutes to give Eskişehir a two-goal cushion that defined the rest of the evening.
