Asvel Basket 88, Beşiktaş Cola Turka 85

Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka men’s basketball suffered a heart-breaking, 88-85, loss to the Asvel Basket in its third Eurocup Group B game.

With a starting five composed of Allen Iverson, Cevher Özer, Ignerski, Likholitov ve Chatman, the Eagles opened the game with a basket by Ignerski on an Iverson assist but then saw Asvel match them basket for basket. The teams were tied at 13 midway through the quarter as the score remained tight until the end of first. Nonetheless, a Servet Çetin three-pointer at the buzzer put the Black and White ahead by one, 27-26, going into the second frame. Both sides committed 7 turnovers each in the opening stanza.
The home team appeared to be the better side at the start of the second, taking a 34-29 lead three minutes into the game and holding a slight edge until the latter stages. However, with 4:24 left on the clock, Allen Iverson reentered the game and Beşiktaş Cola Turka was back in action. Cevher Özer converted an Iverson assist with a three-pointer to fire the Eagles back on top, 35-34. Then Likholitov and Bekir Yarangüme made a layup each to push the lead to 39-35. It was 46-40 at the interval with Ignerski chipping in 11 points for Beşiktaş Cola Turka.
Despite a Likholitov turnover to start the second, the Eagles never loosened their grip in the third and rode the hot hand of Chatman to stretch their advantage to eight at 51-43 after couple minutes. Then Allen Iverson nailed a short jumper to give Beşiktaş its biggest lead in the game, 55-45, with 3:05 left. Asvel Basket managed to put together a late rally that cut the deficit to 64-56 with one quarter still to play.
The French started the fourth with a flurry of offense, scoring back-to-back buckets to pull within one at 64-63 two minutes into the final frame. From then on, the game turned into a shooting duel with the Black and White trailing 67-66 at the halfway points. The game turned into a dog-fight down the stretch with the lead going back and forth several times. The Eagles staged a number of comeback attempts in the waining minutes, but Asvel prevailed in the end to walk away with a hotly-contested 88-85 victory. .
 Ignerski led Beşiktaş Cola Turka men’s basketball with 22 points, followed by   Likholitov (19), Chatman (13), Ogilvy (9), Cevher (5), Serhat (5), Allen Iverson (4), Cüneyt (3), Mustafa Abi (3) and Bekir (2), who all contributed to the Black and White’s offensive effort..
