Beşiktaş Cola Turka 94, Trabzonspor 85

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball bested the visiting Medical Park Trabzonspor 94-85 in a Week 7 action of the Turkish League.

The opening quarter was a real tight affair with the score being tied on several occasions. Then the visitors’ tenacious defense forced the Black and White into turnovers as they pulled ahead 10-9 on a layup by Ali Karadeniz with 3:15 left. But the Eagles managed to get their act together in the closing stages, and an Ismail Çevik fadeaway capped a late Beşiktaş surge that gave them an 18-16 edge, heading into the second quarter.
The early part of the second saw the Eagles missing all their three-pointers while Trabzonspor making no mistake on that department. After Rasiç’s 25-foot 3-point shot tied the game at 20 with 7:55 remaining in the first half, Obasohan followed it with three of his own to make it 23-20 for the visitors. From there on, Allen Iverson stepped in and exploded for a number of clutch jumpers and assists to keep Beşiktaş Cola Turka in the game. The teams were locked in a 41-41 tie at the break.
The see-saw battle continued in the third quarter with Trabzonspor clinging onto a 51-50 lead at the midway point. As the game rolled on, with Allen Iverson, who played 20 minutes in the first half, resting on the bench, the Eagles had a tough time getting to the basket. Nonetheless, they managed to keep their opponent’s defense in check and were up 62-61 after three hard-fought quarters of basketball.
A switch to zone defense paid off huge dividends for Beşiktaş Cola Turka in the fourth as it limited Trabzonspor to only a basket four minutes into the quarter. With the entering of Iverson, who was having his best outing for the Eagles this season, Beşiktaş kept up the pressure for the rest of the game to cruise to a 94-85 win.
