Hemofarm Stada 94, Beşiktaş Cola Turka 91

In their Eurocup Group B opener, the Eagles fell 94-91 to the visiting Hemofarm Stada of Serbia at the Arena on Tuesday. In his first official game, Allen Iverson scored 15 points for Beşiktaş.

The 11-time NBA All-Star's debut attracted a media coverage rarely seen in the history of Turkish Basketball. The sold- out crowd cheered the Eagles and Iverson on from start to finish.
With a starting five of Cevher Özer, Serhat Çetin, Mire Chatman Fedor Likholitov and Iverson, Beşiktaş Cola Turka came out of the gates firing and built an 11-7 advantage midway through the opening frame. Thanks to a barrage of threes from the hot-shooting Serhat Çetin and clutch assists by Iverson, the Eagles went on to stretch that lead to 24-14, heading into the second stanza.
The Serbians found their shooting stroke in the second as they rallied to within five, 24-19, after two and half minutes. While veteran point-guard Cüney Erden came off the bench to revitalize Beşiktaş's offense, Allen Iverson, playing in shooting-guard position, hit his first basket of the game at the 4:30 mark, a driving layup, to push the lead back to eight. Then, Cevher Özer's 3-pointer from down town sparked a late Beşiktaş run that gave the Eagles a 44-35 cushion at the break. Allen Iverson was on the floor for 13 minutes in the first half and had 4 points.
Hemofarm pulled off another comeback early in the third as it brought the deficit back to three, 49-46, on a string of unanswered buckets. From there on, the game turned into an intense battle with the teams matching each other basket for basket. But with 3:10 showing on the clock, despite being closely guarded by the Serbians the whole night, Allen Iverson finally made his presence felt by knocking down a couple of 3-pointers that put the Eagles up by five at 59- 54 and sent the home crowd on their feet. The stubborn visitors from Serbia refused to surrender however as they bounced back to take a 61-60 lead, their first in the game, entering the closing stages. Nevertheless, Beşiktaş responded with its own rally in the dying minutes and was up by 69-63 after three quarters of play.
With Iverson resting on the bench, the Eagles dominated the early part of the fourth, going back inside and stiffening their defense. They extended their lead to as much as 16 points, 79-63, behind a number of layups by James Ogilvy. Iverson reentered the game with 4:20 left and made it 91-84 on a four-point play with 1:45 remaining in the game. Just as everyone in the Arena was starting to think that the Black and White was heading to an easy win, the down but not out Hemofarm sprang back to life with a flurry of three pointers to upset Beşiktaş Cola Turka 94-91.
In his debut as an Eagle, the former NBA star Alen Iverson played 24 minutes and poured in 15 points.
