Beşiktaş Cola Turka 87, Oyak Renault 81

The visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball pulled out an 87-81 OT victory over Oyak Renault in a Week 5 action of the Beko Basketball League at the Bursa Atatürk Sports Hall.

After an evenly played opening quarter, the Black Eagles clung to a one-point, 18-17, edge heading into the second. The two teams continued to match each other basket for basket in the second quarter with Beşiktaş maintaining a narrow 36-35 lead at halftime. Thanks to the hot shooting of Mays and Gibson, Oyak Renault started the second half with a flurry of unanswered baskets and was up by seven, 58-51, entering the fourth. But the Eagles were not going to let their hosts run away with it; as they scratched and clawed their way back to tie at 71 after the regulation time expired, sending the game into overtime. After Likholitov made a layup to start the OT, Mire Chatman followed it with back-to-back buckets to give Beşiktaş Cola Turka a six-point cushion at the half way mark. The home team tried desperately to close the gap in the dying minutes, but the Eagles withstood all charges to walk away with an 87-81 victory on the road.
Mire Chatman poured in a game-high 34 points for Beşiktaş, followed by Cevher  Özer (18), Serhat Çetin ( 16), Likholitov (9), Ignerski (4), Mustafa Abi (2), Cüneyd Erden (2) and Oglivy (2). The Eagle’s new guard Allen Iverson was not in uniform and watched his first game from the stands.
