After the match, a much-relieved Schuster shared his thoughts on his team’s win over Gençlerbirliği: 

“We were fortunate to come out on the winning end tonight, and it’s a credit to the lads. We beat a tough team on a horrendous pitch, and we did it without injuring anyone.  I hope this win will put an end to our dry spell and start our climb in the standings. It was nice to see our injured players back on the line-up. They sure played an important role in our win tonight. It was also encouraging to see our defence play as one unit and keep a clean sheet. As opposed to previous matches, they limited their opponent to a few chances in this one. We badly needed this match to stay close to the top so three points mattered more than anything else. I must admit I am not totally satisfied with our overall performance. Nonetheless, our never-ending desire to win must be praised. It gives us an inspiration for the future. We still have time to improve, and you’ll see a better Beşiktaş on the pitch in coming weeks.”
