Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality 1 – 0 Beşiktaş

Eren Özen’s first-half strike gave second division side Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality a 1-0 win against visitors Beşiktaş in their Ziraat Bank Turkish Cup Group B opener.

The Black Eagles started strong and put several efforts toward the Gaziantep net in the early moments, only to see Bobo and Quaresma waste a number of golden chances. Just when it seemed as if the Black and Whites were taking full control, the opening goal came, and it went to the home side. Midfielder Eren Özen caught Beşiktaş keeper Cenk Gönen napping with a bullet from 25-yards out to provide an unexpected lead for his team on 26 minutes. The Eagles refused to let their heads go down and upped the pressure for an equaliser. But Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality managed to fight off Beşiktaş’s energetic onslaughts long enough to take a one-goal advantage into the dressing room at the break.
Beşiktaş started off the second half much like how they ended the first, on top of Gaziantep and producing good looking football in midfield but with limited chances upfront. As the game moved on, Manager Bernd Schuster grew restless and substituted Tabata and Necip with Holosko and Yusuf to strengthen the front line. Despite ever-increasing, Beşiktaş attacks, the home side’s defence stood their ground in the closing minutes to pick up a valuable three points for Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality in their first Turkish Cup match.
