Porto 1 – 1 Beşiktaş

In their fourth UEFA Europa League Group L action, the visiting Black Eagles held group leaders Porto to a 1-1 draw with a 62nd-minute Nihat Kahveci goal.

The match, refereed by Paolo Tagliavento of Italian Football Federation, took place at the Estadio Dragao Stadium in Porto. A small but vocal group of Beşiktaş fans cheered the Black and White on throughout the game. The Black and White played without veteran keeper Rüştü Reçber, who suffered a neck spasm in yesterday’s training and was taken out of the 18-men squad.
The teams staged an attacking football early on but were unable to break down each other’s defence. Just as everybody was starting to think that the first half would end goalless, Porto won a penalty kick when Beşiktaş goal keeper Hakan Arıkan tripped Falcao inside the box at the 35-minute mark. Same Falcoa made no mistake from the penalty spot to give his team a goal lead, which would stand until the end of first 45 minutes.
Starting the second half with Holosko in replacement of Tabata, the Eagles gained control when Rodriguez of Porto was sent to showers after receiving his second yellow on 59 minutes. The one-man advantage paid big for the Black and Whites six minutes later; as Nihat Kahveci fired a bullet from 25 yards out into the top left corner to bring the sides back on level terms. Beşiktaş were also reduced to 10-men when İbrahim Toraman got his second yellow in the 66th minute. After brining on Necip Uysal and Erhan Güven for Holosko and Nihat Kahveci, the Eagles went after the winner with well-organized flank attacks but failed to turn the score in the favour as the teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 stalemate.
