Wrapping up the last season as the champion, Beşiktaş grabbed an important success on behalf of Turkey in the 4th European Champions Cup which was held from October 13 to 16 in Brussels in Belgium. Beşiktaş, participating for the first time in this cup and fighting against the leading teams of Europe, was consisted of Nezih Kubaç, Nafiz Zorlu, Ümit Tarhan, İsmail Kandemir, Zafer Şengüler and İrfan Doğan; passed the eliminating rounds and made the finals in the second place of Group B. The Black & White team lost against Schaltz of Denmark in the semi-finals, and grabbed the fourth place in Europe after losing the fight for the 3rd place against BC Torino Allegra of Italy. Beşiktaş, which participated in the tournament for the first time and showed a great performance against its very strong opponents, topped the 5th place which Tofaş had reached last season and carried Turkey one step higher in the rank.  Tennis Cl Parioli of Italy won the championship for the 3rd time in a row.
Nezih Kubaç, the Manager of the Bridge Team and a player, said that they had acquired a significant success and added “Tofaş had made the 5th place last season. We had planned a better success before we came to the tournament and we achieved that. Turkey had such a success for the first time in its history. Our goal now is to go even higher. We lacked the experience since it was our first time, and felt the deficiency of being like that. However, I believe that we left a good mark.”
Ekin Maden, leading brand of the metal and mining sector, covered the costs of the championship, as the sponsor of the Beşiktaş team.
