Having aimed to participate in the 2006 World Cup finals, Our National Team won a 1-0 victory over Ukraine in the most critic game played in Ukraine. The goal which brought the victory to our team was scored by Tümer of Beşiktaş on 55th minute. Tümer had also scored the goal which put our team in leading position in the game played against Denmark at BJK İnönü Stadium. 

Our National Team (A), which definitely had to win this game in order to continue in the race for the 2nd rank, began with a team of 11 players which included İbrahim Toraman, Okan Buruk and Metin Tümer of Beşiktaş. Turkey did not give any substantial opportunity at its goal for the opponent team in the first few minutes of the game and could not take advantage of a very important opportunity to score a goal on the 18th minute with Gökdeniz. From then onwards, our players in the national team could not produce any significant threat at the opponent’s goal but had risky moments at its goal from time to time with long distance kicks made to the goal. 
While the first half ended without any score, our National Team, which began the second half with intention to win, took the leading position thanks to the excellent goal scored by Tümer Metin of Beşiktaş on the 55th minute. Our players who played cautiously afterwards had some dangerous moments at their goal. However, our national players who did not give the opportunity to the opponent team to score at these moments left the field victorious 1-0 and continued its position for the second place within the group.
